If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, why is it important? Must art be beautiful and if so, why do so many artists claim to ignore beauty? Come and discuss together with Dr Guy Dammann, Uppsala University. No prior knowledge or preparation is needed. In English.
This Thursday evening, we will be joined by Dr. Guy Dammann, researcher in the philosophy of music and aesthetics at Uppsala University. His work examines the role of art criticism in the shaping of aesthetic understanding and aesthetic appreciation: Can anything be beautiful and is beauty important?
The conversation will be led by one of Nationalmuseum’s art educators together with Guy Dammann. Taking works from the museum’s collections as our starting point, we will use questions and exercises that open up for reflection and discussion.
